Install the Instagram Feed plugin

If you don’t see “Instagram Feed” in the left sidebar in your WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins > Add New Plugin > search for Smash Balloon Social Photo Feed > install & activate the plugin.

Connect your Instagram account

  1. Go to your WordPress dashboard > Instagram Feed > All Feeds
  2. Click on the red “+ Add New” button from the top of the page
  1. Click on “User Timeline” from Select Feed Type > click on the red “Next” button
  2. Click on “+ Add Source” and you’ll be redirected to a page where you can select what type of account you have (Basic or Business) and connect your account with Instagram
  3. You’ll be redirected back to a page on your site where you can select your connected Instagram account:
  1. Click on “Next” and then you’ll be taken to a page where you can customize your Instagram feed. Move on to the next step to set it up like the demo.

Customize the Instagram feed layout

If you’re not redirected to the page where you can customize your feed, go to Instagram Feed > All Feeds > click on your Instagram username. The steps below will help you set up the feed layout like the demo, but you can customize it to your liking.

Feed Layout
  1. Set Padding to 15
  2. Under “Number of Posts”, set Desktop and Mobile to 6
  3. Under “Columns”, set Desktop and Tablet to 6 and Mobile to 3
Header, Load More Button, Follow Button

Uncheck “Enable” in all three.

Instagram feed not showing up in footer?

Import the content

Make sure you’ve imported the content. The Instagram feed section in the footer will be imported with everything else.

Double-check the shortcode’s feed number

First, go to Instagram Feed > All Feeds > check the feed number under Shortcode.

Then go to your WordPress dashboard > Appearance > Widgets > expand “Footer 1”. If the feed number does not match the one from the “All Feeds” page, change it.

Add the Instagram feed from the Design Library

If you delete the Instagram feed or the “Footer 1” widget area is empty even after you’ve imported the demo content, you can add it from the Design Library. But since the Design Library can’t be used in Widgets, you’ll have to do this:

  1. Go to Pages > Add Page (or “Add New Page”)
  2. Click on “Design Library” from the top of the page
  3. Select “Willow” from the options at the top
  4. Select “Sidebar + Footer Blocks” from the left
  5. Select the “Footer – Instagram Feed” block from the library
  6. Copy it, then go to Appearance > Widgets and paste it in the “Footer 1” widget area
